Interview about Fairtrade with Aroma's CEO, Olle Björkenström
Can you satisfy a sweet tooth with a clear conscience? Yes, of course you can. Candy is good but can also do good when it comes to production and working conditions in the market. In Sweden, many people are involved in Fairtrade and the symbol has a high recognition factor. With an increasingly aware population, better sweets are produced.
Aroma's candy series RättåGott, which is both Fairtrade certified and contains natural colors, is an answer to this. 7 years ago, Olle Björkenström was asked to become CEO of Aroma Candy Factory. Aroma was founded in 1921 by Gottfrid Eklund. The first candy that was made was cream chocolate that Gottfrid cooked in a kitchen on Folkungagatan in Stockholm. Today, Aroma has two candy factories, one that makes all jelly candy in Skarpnäck and one that makes chocolate in Torshälla. Aroma is best known for its jelly hearts, the jelly rat and the Fairtrade series RättåGott, which Aroma started with in 2008.

1. Why is Fairtrade important to Aroma?
Good and decent conditions are something that we sometimes take for granted in this part of the world. By producing Fairtrade products, you have the opportunity to influence what the conditions look like in countries where better and fairer conditions are needed. This contributes to giving, for example, sugar growers the opportunity for education and personal development. Of course, we want to be part of this journey.
2. Why should you choose RättåGott over other sweets?
First of all, because the candy tastes really good! Taste and quality are something we never compromise on. We create a product that is not only good, but also helps to do good for those who face much tougher conditions than we have. An additional dimension is that the candy contains natural colors and flavors and is manufactured in Sweden.
